NIcki Smedley in winning ring return
On the offensive from the opening bell Smedley quickly increased the pace, to such a degree that by the fourth round he was handing a one sided beating to the traveller from the midlands, hooks to both head and body connected frequently, as did jabs followed by vicious uppercuts that sickened the visitor and had Nicki continued in that vein he may well have scored an inside the distance victory.

As it was, the pace slowed a little towards the end as Nicki, with father Chris in the corner, opted to choose his shots carefully, switching to southpaw at times to further confuse his under fire opponent who by that stage had picked up a bloodied nose for his troubles.

Having impressed on his return Nicki will doubtless be stepped up again next time out, and looking to cement his place amongst the upper echelons of the domestic welterweight division he will be looking towards title shots of sorts in the not too distant future.
Mosborough light-heavyweight Kyle 'Hit em' Whitham also triumphed by a 60-54 margin, proving too cute for Retford's experienced Lee Nicholson.
Bossing proceedings throughout the one-sided affair, Kyle moved into an early lead which Nicholson never looked like overturning.

The victory means that Whitham has now won two and drawn one since joining the paid ranks at this same venue back in October.

Rotherham's Tommy Coward saw off Nottingham's ex-soldier Matt Scriven over four rounds, Doncaster referee Michael Alexander awarding him a 40-36 victory.
Whilst Scriven did connect with a fair few meaty replies, especially in the close fought opener, he generally came off second best in spells of trading and there were no complaints from him when the Swinton boxers arm was rightly raised at the conclusion of the contest.

Sheffield's well supported Issrar Asif gave away four stones to Pudsey heavyweight Lee Mountford but still emerged a 60-54 six round winner having bossed the contest from the outset.

Whilst Mountford never looked overly troubled, his sheer bulk meaning that he could take the best of what Izzy could throw, he seldom hit back with anything troublesome and as such never looked like denying the Abbeydale Road man his second straight paid victory.
The evening's other contest, a four rounder between Manor Park's Dale Hutchinson and Lincoln first timer Steve Swinburn proved a close fought affair and with little daylight between the two welterweights the 38-38 draw handed down by Mr Alexander looked just about right, with neither man deserving to lose what was an evenly-fought battle.
