Jamie McDonnell vs Rodrigo Bracco

Jamie McDonnell made a successful first defence of his European bantamweight title in front of his home fans.

The Doncaster fighter - who has enjoyed so much success on the road over the past year - stopped Italian Rodrigo Bracco inside three rounds at the Doncaster Dome.

It was an impressive display from the 24-year-old former plasterer, as he took his professional record to 15-2-1.

McDonnell was happy to use his longer reach to probe away with his jab in the opening two rounds, comfortably keeping the 30-year-old Bracco at arms length.

But when he went fully on the offensive towards the end of the third round, the fight ended surprisingly quickly.

Staggering

Bracco was quickly staggering under the weight of shots to both head and body and his legs had clearly gone as he reeled around the ring.

McDonnell had his man trapped on the ropes and was about to unleash further punishment when the referee rightly stepped in to end the contest two minutes and 53 seconds into the third round.

A delighted McDonnell told Sky Sports: "I'm over the moon. It became an easy fight. He's only small and I felt like I was destroying him with the jab.

"I got caught with a few when I started letting go but you are going to get caught with one or two, so I am well pleased with that performance."

NICKI SMEDLEY RETURNS TO THE RING

Woodthorpe puncher Nicki Smedley ended a two year spell of inactivity at Sheffield City Hall on Saturday night's Dennis Hobson promotion by turning in a stylish, hard hitting performance to claim a shut-out 60-54 six round points victory over tough Worcester journeyman Billy Smith.

ANOTHER CHAMPION FROM THE HOBSON CAMP !!

Jamie McDonnell

At the La Palestre, Le Cannet, in Alpes-Maritimes, France, British bantamweight Jamie McDonnell (14-2-1,6 KOs) stopped Jerome Arnould (22-4-1, 14 KOs) in the tenth round to win the EBU title. McDonnell dominated nearly all of the action.

McDonnell had control of the action for the first seven rounds with Arnould not being able to adapt. Arnould made a last stand when he tried to stage a late rally in the seventh and eight rounds. In the tenth round, a series of hooks hurt Arnould and pushed him into the ropes.

During that exchange Arnould's mouthpiece fell out. A few moments were taken to place it back in but McDonnell went back on the attack and put him down for the win with more hard punches.

Dennis Hobson Christmas Concert

Once again we sold out the Sheffield City Hall for another amazing Christmas Concert.

This time it was made all the more special by also being the perfect time to promote the 'One Song Foundation' launched by music genius Eliot Kennedy, plus a superb way of celebrating the success of 'World At Your Feet' - the song adopted as the anthem for the 2018 World Cup Back The Bid Campaign.
